The Second WIX setting - "Domain"

Updated: Nov 5, 2020

The second setting in the WIX settings menu is called "Domain". This is where all the "Domain" settings for this site are controlled(important point here, these are only for this specific site).

So what is a "Domain"? So Wikipedia has this to say...

This is all very confusing and for our purposes, we are going to call it a website. Its the name that you type into Google Chrome or Internet Explorer to see your new WIX website.

So what does this settings tab within WIX allow us to do? Well it basically allows you to connect your WIX website to a domain name so that you can view it in a web browser.

Where do you get Domain Names from? That is a great question and it depends on your preferences. There are any number of Domain Name providers such as Go Daddy, Crazy Domains, Bluehost or even WIX. A Domain name that is just a ".com" ending should only be about $9.99 for two years registration, whereas a ".com.au" extension can cost up to $29.99 for two years and sometimes you have to prove that you actually own the business associated with the new domain name or website. It can be a hassle.

Anyway, once you have a domain name, the job within WIX is very simple. Simply click on "Connect a domain" and choose "Buy a new domain" or "Connect to a Domain that you already own". At the end of either process, your WIX website should be connected to your domain name. It may take a little while for it to appear in a web browser and you may also need to edit your site and publish it to the web.

There are other settings that you can change from this page, but these are very complicated details that are not normally touched by most WIX website users. There are plenty of help text articles on the WIX support page.

And if you do need help with this settings page, please contact Mad Dog Lola eMarketing. We are available to help you with most domain settings questions.
